A COUNTRY ESCAPE

The great road trip is somewhat of tradition, packing the car and venturing out of the city for some pure country air, no bright city lights, out of the hustle and bustle, away from the 6am tram bell wake -up call as it rattles down the high street, away from the drunken departures from the local pub at 3 am on a Sunday morning… no this weekend was back to nature, back to sleeping so well I didn’t even dream, back to waking up to no unwanted tram alarm clock, and exploring a little town called Marysville.

90 mins drive from Melbourne, Marysville is a town that is still rebuilding after the devastation of the Black Saturday bushfires 6 years ago, which wiped it out. The extent of the fires is still visible on the hills around the town with the ghost like remains of trees a poignant reminder of what happened here. But like everything there is beauty in destruction, this is a town that is regenerating just as rapidly as the surrounding bushlands that are once again lush and laden with sapling gums and man ferns, life has returned to the bush, just as the town continues to welcome back it’s ever growing tourist business, an rebuild what was lost.

Vibe Marysville offers a world of comfort, modern luxury, well appointed rooms, a heated pool, Gym & Sauna. The Hotel’s Radius bar and restaurant serves only local produce, cooked entirely in a wood-fired oven (no gas here) – Just be sure to book before your arrival, as it’s likely on weekends to be fully booked.I highly recommend leaving room for dessert (the ginger Panna cotta is not to be missed)

If you are like me and a little indulgence never goes astray then definitely book into the The SPA Marysville, for massage or skin treatment, The spa is located directly beneath the Hotel.

Steavenson falls is not to be missed, and if you’re keen a short hike to the top of the falls makes for an impressive view across the township.

Thanks to Vibe Marysville for a relaxing stay.

Loveless

In case you haven’t noticed I’m not a big colour person, I usually stick to the basics of Grey, Black and lots of White. But every now and again I feel the urge to inject some colour into my outfits and I seek out something the I know I’m not going to feel to unlike myself in. The Anguish T-shirt from the Maurie & Eve Spring 13 Loveless collection ticked all the boxes for me, the slouchy-ness of the silk and the modern shape give this top a relaxed but dressed up appeal, while the soft peach hue adds a hint of colour, which is more than welcomed in this bleak Winter. Oh and yes this also comes in Black and White, both of which are high on my must have list.

Mirage

Another break in the weather enabled me to finally shoot my ‘Knit of the moment’, although this wasn’t initially where I was intending. As I stood contemplating my next move to find that elusive back street or lane way that I was searching for, I got snapped, and on checking out the pics unbeknown to me I was right where I wanted to be. So with said Knit snapped (seriously I am in love with this piece) and the rain clearly on its way Sunday was spent with hot tea and dvds. Dear Melbourne please stop with the rain already.

Back to Black

After the rain came more rain, and then some more rain, and finally after falling asleep and waking up to rain, there was a clearing and a small window of opportunity to dash outside and shoot before the sky clouded over and the glimpse of blue and sunshine was no longer. Melbourne Winters are long and the past few days incredibly wet. Needless to say I really can’t wait for summer or a trip to some tropical paradise, which ever comes first.

Oblivion

So it came to be the first day of Winter without me even realizing and I am still wondering how for the first time in my 10 years living in Melbourne I have made it all through Autumn with bare legs. In my effort to keep up the challenge I have with myself and to extend my wardrobe beyond just one season, I am constantly layering up top with knits, coats and scarves, over lightweight tops and sheer shirts, meaning I can still wear my favourite combos Summer or Winter.
Wearing; Feathers Coat, Maurie & Eve Top similar here, Eberjey Bralette from Shopbop, Sportsgirl Denim Skirt similar here, and Asos Heels.
